FLIGHT

Flights are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs. A player’s throw velocity should determine what style of flight will work best. Experiment with different flight shapes until you find the one that works best for you. Flights allow you to personalize the look of your darts.

SHAFT

The shaft provides spacing between the flight and the barrel. Shafts are manufactured from various materials, such as nylon, aluminum, or polycarbonate, and are manufactured in varying lengths. Choose a shaft that allows a comfortable feel and considers the flight trajectory. For maximum stability, select the shortest shaft that is comfortable for you.

BARREL

Varying widely in weight, length, grip, and diameter, the barrel of a dart should be chosen to match your style of grip and throw. Barrels are generally made of alloy, nickel, silver, or tungsten. Alloy and nickel silver barrels are less expensive than tungsten but tend to be wider in circumference. Tungsten barrels offer the advantage of a much slimmer dart, which can yield closer groupings, increasing your scores.

TIP

The end of the dart that first enters the dartboard. For use with traditional sisal boards, steel tips are hardy and durable, and are incorporated into the construction of the barrel. Because of this, steel tips very rarely break and almost never need to be replaced. This built-in nature, coupled with its toughness allows you to repair steel tips as they accrue wear from hours of play. Some more professional darts feature a black oxide coating which is designed to better grip the sisal fibers and eliminate bounce-outs.
